š¦ The term Coronaphobia has become more popularised in media and over the internet over the last few weeks. With lockdown being eased, a lot of us are feeling anxious about life post lockdown or returning the new ānormalā as it has been called.
š¦ Coronaphobia means the fear of returning to normality once lockdown has been lifted, after all we were told to stay at home to save lifeās & now we are told go back out in to society to save the economy, we have all been through a large change in our lives over the last four months and have been constantly bombarded by news and media headlines of infections and death rates. It is only natural that a lot of us especially those who have been shielding have developed Coronaphobia & you might be wondering how can you manage your fear & anxiety while easing back into our new normal lifestyle.
Hereās some tips that can help you with your anxiety.
šæBefore coronavirus we were all use to having a routine. A routine gives us a purpose to our day with goals, targets, deadlines & can help us get into better eating habits, exercise routines that are added into our days, without routine it can feel hard to have no form of structure & this is when we can feel down, low, depressed, start eating & drinking at different times of the day, sleeping patterns are then disturbed because we are either sleeping to much throughout the day & then wide a wake at night which can lead to emotional eating, itās easy to spiral out of control when we donāt have a structure or routine to our days. Start with getting into a routine with exercising or a daily walk, If nothing else, your body will appreciate the exercise if youāve not been keeping active and will burn up any excess adrenaline that your anxious body might be producing.Ā From there on, build on this structure by setting your plan for the next day in the evening before so you can prepare yourself for leaving the house if needed.
šæCreate your own social bubble net work that you feel safe & secure in, this could be one close friend or a few close friend & family that you can meet to have a chat with about your emotions & feelings during these times, friends can sometime be the best councillors & you will feel better for it when you open up to a close friend or loved one.
šæTake time to get used to everything going on. Itās OK to allow yourself to slowly move back into your pre lockdown routine. If you can work from home, and donāt feel confident returning to work when it reopens, speak with your manager and let them know how you are feeling. Put in place a plan to continue to work through your anxiety.
šæYou donāt have to do everything in one big leap and tackle everything in one go instead, spread things out and execute a phased return to ānormal lifeā. If youāre worried about specific issues, such as large public gatherings or using public transport, work on these difficulties slowly. Remember, itās a marathon and not a race.
šæAnd finally, if you need some additional support to help you through this challenging period you can book an appointment with me & we can look at a treatment plan to help you through these difficult times.
